Description

Finone 10mg Tab is a prescription medication indicated to reduce the risk of sustained eGFR decline, end-stage kidney disease, cardiovascular death, non-fatal myocardial infarction, and hospitalization for heart failure in adult patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) associated with type 2 diabetes (T2D). It helps slow the progression of kidney damage while protecting the heart and blood vessels from diabetic complications. Finone 10mg is the recommended starting dose for patients with an eGFR of 25 to less than 60 mL/min, with the target maintenance dose being 20mg once daily.

MECHANISM OF ACTION

Finerenone is a nonsteroidal, selective mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) antagonist. It blocks MR overactivation in both kidney and non-epithelial tissues, such as the heart and blood vessels, thereby reducing inflammation and fibrosis that contribute to organ damage in CKD and T2D.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

• Take as prescribed by your physician
• The starting dose is based on eGFR levels
• Usually taken once daily with or without food
• Swallow whole with a glass of water; may be crushed and mixed with water if unable to swallow
• Monitor serum potassium 4 weeks after initiation

SIDE EFFECTS

• Hyperkalemia (elevated potassium levels)
• Hypotension (low blood pressure)
• Hyponatremia (decreased sodium levels)
• Dizziness
• Renal impairment (rare)

NOT RECOMMENDED IN

Patients with adrenal insufficiency, serum potassium above 5.0 mEq/L, or those concurrently receiving strong CYP3A4 inhibitors such as itraconazole, ketoconazole, or ritonavir. Use is not established in patients under 18 years of age.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Finone 10mg Tab should not be used with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors, including clarithromycin, itraconazole, and ritonavir, as these significantly increase finerenone plasma concentrations. Strong CYP3A4 inducers such as St. John’s Wort may reduce its efficacy. Concomitant use with potassium supplements or potassium-sparing agents increases the risk. Grapefruit and grapefruit juice should be avoided during treatment. Always consult your doctor before combining with other medications.
